Lucid Dreaming - Reality Checks
The human mind is fragile
and complex. Even when in a sleep state it is still at times working at a fervent and expansive pace. The brain is
one of the most powerful and useful gifts ever given. When it comes to lucid dreaming the mind is at the essence of
importance. As a beginning lucid dreamer there will be many things we will need to be able to do with our head to
assure success. One such necessity will be for us to control our thoughts. Once we learn what to do and how to do
it the chance of recognizable lucid dreaming becomes more realistic.
When we are dreaming we are simply in an altered state of reality. Although we are not
technically awake our mind still has the ability to reference and process many real life circumstances and
experiences. While we are maneuvering around dream worlds even though we are connected to reality there are
still a number of items we can key in on to help us distinguish between what is a dream and what is alert
reality. One lucid dreaming technique we can employ to accomplish this is what is referred to as checking
reality.
As we consciously practice checking our realities our mind should become trained
enough to be able to transfer this power across mental states. The basic goal of
this beginner’s lucid dreaming method is to identify attributes that cross-transfer from both worlds and then
learn how to acknowledge those physical and sensual alarms that tell us which world we’re
in. Let’s take a look at some of these lucid dreaming reality check situations to get a
better understanding of the characteristics we will need to develop.
When it comes to the dream world and the waking world, there are often minor details
that are slightly off. A great lucid dreaming reality check is looking at your hands and
feet. When we are dreaming our body parts often become distorted or exaggerated and this
is a great way to determine state of mind. Another lucid dreaming type check is jumping or
falling down. When we are dreaming physics and gravity is not treated the same and this
should be evident after we test.
We can also try to use power and electronics. In dream capacities
these real world concepts do not cross-over the same. Something else we can do is take
note of the time, location and surroundings. When we are dreaming these objects and
truths are likely much different then we would normally expect. A final mind exercise we
can do while we are awake to better perfect our lucid dreaming skills is to try and do something we could
easily and quickly do in real life.
For example send an email, make a cell phone call to a friend, write a letter or go to
the car to run a standard errand. When we are dreaming many of our routine daily tasks are
not accomplishable as they normally would be. Regardless of what approach we take it is
clear that the only way to get better at lucid dreaming is to train and exercise our minds in a manner that
allows state distinguishing.
Someone really wanting to elevate there lucid dreaming capabilities should be
practicing similar exercises to these three to five times a day. The more we workout out
our brain with meaningful programs like these, the easier it will be to fall into and out of lucid
dreams. Checking your mind in controlled and deliberate situations will allow lucid
dreaming to become that much more advanced.
